WHĀNAU MATTERS
Matters around whānau, why? Because whānau matters.
Family relationship advice for common family situations and parenting challenges.
Whānau Matters came out of a lunch and a conversation with presenter, entertainer, and good buddy Pio Terei. Fellow conspirator, collaborator and producer Gavin Wood and I yum cha'd with Pio. Over the course of a couple of hours, we grew his idea together, and before long we were on the road to creating something special we are all very proud to have produced. Fantastic actor and all round talent Miriama McDowell (who recently played Dame Whina Cooper in the film "WHINA") was keen to be involved too. We put our heads together, wrote a pilot, assembled a group of like minded souls who came onboard and gave their time for free, and we shot a pilot. It was quickly and enthusiastically picked up by Māori Media Network, and supported by E Tū Whānau and we have now produced 26 episodes of 90 seconds each.
Whānau Matters revolves around a Māori family and their day to day lives. Funny, sad, to the point, snappy, and always entertaining each story is relevant to all whānau in all New Zealand. This concept can easily be adapted for any situation and any agency.
I co-wrote, directed, and offline edited all 26 episodes.
